John Crane's soaring praise for the NHS

John Crane talks all things auctioneeringRadio Clatterbridge's art and antiques expert is back behind the microphone after experiencing the good work of the NHS at first hand.

John Crane revealed he has been recovering from a chest problem.

The owner of Cato Crane auction house was treated in Arrowe Park Hospital and had nothing but praise for the staff from Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust.

"I am fine now thanks to the NHS. The service was abosutely perfect. If you had paid £500 an hour it couldn't have been any better." - John Crane

John explained to Coffee Club presenter Steve Evans how he has been busy catching up with all things auctioneering since he was discharged.

People are still buying antiques, he said, with silver, jewellery and pictures doing especially well.

"Anything of good quality will sell well. It's all about spec." - John Crane

John with an enamel plaque craneJohn brought with him a number of artifacts, including an enamel plaque of a crane in the latest of his monthly guest appearances.

He is now planning a Beatles auction in Liverpool in August with some good autograph sets amongst the 300-400 lots.

The expert revealed how he used to sing regularly with Sir Paul McCartney and George Harrison in the early days of the Fab Four.

It turns out John was a fellow pupil at the Liverpool Institute School, now LIPA - and he used to sing with the masses during morning assembly!
