Help for people with dementia

The Alzeimer's Society has unveiled plans on Radio Clatterbridge for a new service for people living with dementia in Wirral.

Coffee Club listeners heard how the free Side by Side scheme aims to reduce social isolation while empowering people to get out and about with the help of a volunteer.

Rachel Meadows, manager of the service, also appealed for people to give up their time to give one-to-one support.

She told presenter Steve Evans how the extra support can help people with dementia do things that others may take for granted.

Rachel said it also helps people feel part of their community.

Rachel added that people can now be referred for the service to be built around the individual and their needs.

Side by Side is currently being developed in a number of areas across the country.
