Folk On The Coast

We meet some interesting folk at Radio Clatterbridge - and were relieved when two of our most recent guests agreed to come back after our studios were evacuated.

John and Angie Owen popped in to the station to promote the upcoming Wirral Folk On The Coast Festival but were unceremoniously removed from the studio by emergency services at the weekend.

Thankfully the pair came returned to the airwaves on the Coffee Club a few days later.

The festival, now in its ninth year, is a major event attracting performers from all over the country.

More than 200 acts are expected to perform this year including crowd-pullers Show of Hands, Dougie Maclean, Jamie Smith's Mabon and Steve Tilston. A great support act called Young 'Uns also play during the weekend.

The pair explained to Steve Evans how the event is very much a family one with free music, dance and poetry, as well as a craft fair and this year also includes flamingo dancers!

It all takes place at Whitby Sports And Social Club in Ellesmere Port from 6th-9th June 2013.

The main stage concerts and some other events are ticketed. More details can be found on the festival website or by contacting the booking office on 0151 678 9902 / 0151 652 0734 or at

If you're a fan of folk, you may also be interested in the Hungry Horse Folk Club on Thursday nights at 8.30 pm at the same venue, which provides a special monthly guest and open mic nights and singarounds. For more information, contact John and Angie via e-mail or phone 0151 678 9902.
