Lego Clatterbricks to build new hospital

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is expanding into the city centre and to raise money for the move, they're also building a giant model replica of the building.

Once complete, it will be one of the biggest Lego structures in the country and the first ever hospital of its kind to be made from Lego bricks in the world.

The fundraising appeal aims to sell half a million bricks for £1 each so they can be used in the 6-foot model.

The team from Bright Bricks bring their creations in to the studio

Dave Fautley from professional Lego-building company Bright Bricks came into the studio to show off some of his designs.

Meanwhile, Elspeth Wilson from The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity told Coffee Club presenter Ian Grant all about the project.

She hoped local schools, community groups and businesses will all get involved in the fundraising scheme.

The new hospital will be used in addition to the existing services in Wirral for the most unwell patients with complex needs or who need inpatient care.

It is due to open in summer 2020 and it is hoped the 11-storey facility will save an extra 600 lives a year.

Listeners can check on the progress of the model hospital as it sits in a giant box at the entrance of the Wirral site.
