Radio Clatterbridge patron Ken Dodd to be knighted

Radio Clatterbridge's patron Ken Dodd is to receive a knighthood, it has been announced.

The Knotty Ash comedian is recognised for services to entertainment and charity on the New Year's Honours list.

The 89 year old made his professional debut in 1954 and is also known for his acting and singing.

Doddy became the first patron of Radio Clatterbridge in 2004.

A proud Sir Ken thanked everyone who wished him to get the knighthood.

"It's the best day ever. You can't get better than this. I've played lots of big theatres. I've worked abroad. But this is it. This is the day." - Ken Dodd

Meanwhile, one of our most popular studio guests of the year is to be awarded an MBE.

Olympic gold medalist Sam Quek will also get the honour for services to entertainment and charity after winning gold as part of Team GB's hockey squad at Rio.

"I feel so immensely proud at being awarded an MBE and it caps off an unbelievable 2016 for me personally." - Sam Quek

The 28-year-old, who took part in the latest series of I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, made Clatterbridge Hospital her first stop after the Olympics to see her grandmother.
