Welcome

Founded in 1951. Radio Clatterbridge is one of the oldest Hospital Community Radio Stations worldwide and also a registered Charity broadcasting to the patients and staff of Clatterbridge Hospital and the Clatterbridge Cancer Centres across Wirral and Liverpool providing a round-the-clock service on 1386am, Online and Mobile Apps.

The Station is staffed by around 30 dedicated volunteers from Presenters and Engineers to Fund Raisers and Ward Visitors, all of whom play a vital role in helping to keep the station on air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our ward visitors regularly collect requests from patients and staff which are played On Air. These are supplemented by requests received from patients' relatives around the world via our Website and Socials on Facebook and X.

The HBA Lifetime Achievement Award, Mike Eveleigh - Radio Clatterbridge

Mike Eveleigh from Radio Clatterbridge won the prestigious HBA Lifetime Achievement Award, receiving a standing ovation. Mike has been an active Radio Clatterbridge volunteer for an incredible 50 years. Originally joining the station as a Presenter, he later became more involved in the stations output producing jingles and Station Idents. etc. But it didn’t stop there, later playing an active role in training, fund raising and managing the stations output as Programme Controller.

He was a Police Officer when he first joined the station and worked as a detective, soon progressing to working with homicide for 10 plus years with Merseyside Police. Despite holding down a highly demanding job, sadly taking him away from presenting, Mike still always managed to find the time to continue tom fundraise for the station and train other volunteers in the use of the equipment and broadcasting techniques. Assisting with four studio moves and embracing many changes from the early days of Vinyl to CD and then into the digital age, allowing us to broadcast on AM and Online using digital desks funded by the Friends of Clatterbridge.

Mike has always risen to the challenges and changes. Since retiring from the Police Force, Mike returned to Broadcasting, and still produces four shows a week, despite being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Facing his challenges head on battling illness, the effort, research and production that go into his four shows a week can be clearly heard, Mike isn’t just a presenter, he’s a friend and a familiar face amongst the volunteers and staff right across the Clatterbridge Health Park.
